TSI is a training institute dedicated to providing experiential training, education and direct services to support people who are affected by trauma and violence in the global community. TSI teaches the Therapeutic Spiral ModelTM (Hudgins, In Press, 2002, 2000) as a safe and effective method of using experiential methods of change. TSI develops local self-sustaining Action Trauma Teams that use action methods to decrease symptoms of PTSD and other stress-related problems through live supervision of direct service teams working with trauma
Most teams conducting personal growth workshops include at least one member in a supervised training status. All direct services workshops have a state-licensed clinician on the team, and whenever possibleTSI teams consult with referring physicians, therapists and others before and after workshops.
Let us explain a few of our TSI workshop descriptions as you read our annual schedule. Please check this Web site at regular intervals for additional workshops as the year progresses. If you or your agency would like to schedule a conference presentation or a specialty workshop, please contact our Director of Training at DrKateTSI@mac.com.

Action Against Trauma Training
TSI developed a community training program with the Institute for Violence and Survival at the University of Virginia's Foundation for the Humanities in 2001-2002. Combining the Therapeutic Spiral Model with the humanities has produced an easily replicable program of experiential education and training for communities effected by violence in the global community.

Core TSI Training:
Four weekend courses offered by a fully trained TSI staff that teach basic experiential skills from the clinical lens of the Therapeutic Spiral Model. Courses include Containment, The Trauma Survivor's Intrapsychic Role Atom, Bodywork, and Defenses.

Core TSI Core Clinical Training
Four advanced clinical courses that are part of the three-year accreditation program in the Therapeutic Spiral Model. Taught by an accredited TSI team: Team Roles, Transference and Countertransference, Projective Identification, and Ethics.

TSI Application Training
Advanced clinical and community applications of the Therapeutic Spiral Model which mee the requirements for accreditation in the Therapeutic Spiral Model. Currently offering: Advanced Bodywork, Addictions, Eating Disorders, Adolescents, Couples and Families, Music, and others.

Classical Psychodrama Series
TSM is based on the solid theories and methods of classical psychodrama as developed by Dr. Jacob L. and Zerka Moreno. Fortunately for us, TSI is able to offer training by Zerka Moreno, the grand dame and mother of psychodrama. Come learn from the best!

Personal Growth Workshops
Clinical workshops sponsored by a local clinician who is licensed in the state of practice. Training team supervised in action by accredited team members. The workshop can be core personal growth such as Surviving Spirits or Conscious Transformation or specialized workshops such as Bodywork, Music, or Trauma and Recovery.

Bodywork Series
The Baltimore, Md., site has developed around the bodywork team that specializes in nutrition, movement, energy and music. Come for personal growth with an emphasis on your body and healing from trauma experiences at the cellular level. Develop your own specialty site.

TSI Retreats
Each year TSI offers a number of residential retreats in countries where we work. Each retreat is an opportunity for the TSI community to come together to build personal strengths and connections with others. Retreats allow for protagonist work, practice directing or membership in a team. Come for self-care, a rejuvenating time and acceptance by others. The retreats are always scheduled in beautiful sites that invite relaxation and distance from the concerns of daily existence – plus good food, good company and good work.

Conference Presentations
Our trainers, team leaders and other team members often present the Therapeutic Spiral Model at regional, national and international conferences.
For information, please see accreditation standards and training program on the Training page of the Web site. As you will see, we help clinicians, educators and community leaders build their local teams with people who share their area of interest, whether bodywork, music, addictions, or other applications listed in our 2010 calendar. Contact the Director of Training, Dr. Kate Hudgins at DrKateTSI@mac.comfor information.

Role Theory:  The Trauma Survivor's Intrapsychic Role Atom

This weekend course teaches you 3 ways to assess the personality structure of a trauma survivor with PTSD using role theory and using people friendly terms that takes therapy out of the often pathological view of DID, bipolar and other psychiatric disorders that trauma survivors are labeled with as they struggle with symptoms like body memories, flashbacks and anxiety attacks.  You will learn a pen and paper tool, an action role atom, and an art therapy collage--all creative ways for you and your client to look at the impact of trauma on their brains and their personality.  This overview of the Therapeutic Spiral Model is then put into psychodramatic action as you experience the roles of protagonist, trained auxiliary ego and assistant leader.  You do not need previous psychodramatic experience to begin your training in TSM as it teaches you the safest way to begin to learn psychodrama to keep your protagonist safe at all times, while involving the entire group to make it a truly therapeutic method for all members.

Cost:  $425.   10%ASGPP discount  25 hours of training.  Housing available at local friends for $25/night or at the English Inn for single or shared room of 99/night.  Call the English Inn at (434)971-9900 to reserve your discounted room.  For more information or to register for this workshop, email DrKateTSI@mac.com

July 2010

July 11-16, Summer Residential

The Prescriptive Roles of Containment

This 5 day summer residential workshop teaches students the all important Prescriptive Roles of Scene 1 in all TSM psychodramas.  To prevent retraumatization in all psychodrama working with trauma, the director learns to empower the protagonist and the group with the Observing ego, the roles of restorative strengths, the Containing and Body Doubles and the Manager of Defenses.  When all of these roles are enacted on the stage, what you find is that you have have, in fact, DEFINED the state of spontaneity and the protagonist is able to stay in the here and now.  For many decades psychodramatists have said, how can you tell if someone is spontaneous? Well this course teaches the Prescriptive roles so that you can make sure that each and every protagonist you direct is always in a state of spontaneity that can lead to new creative action.  Team practice in the TSM roles of director, Assistant leader and Trained Auxiliary ego, as well as opportunities to be a protagonist in safe psychodramas.

Cost:  $1200-10% ASGPP discount.  Shared living in rented homes in the mountains of Virginia with a cook and massage available.  60 hours of training.  To register for this residential, email DrKateTSI@mac.com.
